India, located south-east of Asia, is the seventh largest country by area and has the second-largest population, which is approximately over 12 billion people (International Labour Office, 2004). The problem of child labour is a serious matter all over the world. Furthermore, it is growing not only in India but also in other developing countries such as China and even in the USA (Unicef, 2015). An article written by Osment (2014) gives a specific definition for child labour as: any child out of school from the age of 5 to 14 years; children who receive work; and children who work in homes or in hazardous industries. Moreover, in India, children traditionally help and accompany their parents in agricultural and household activities at a young age. Although family structure and the status of children in society are the prime determinants of the development of society, there a re many causes of this problem including poverty and parents’ lack of knowledge resulting in low levels of education. The inability of children to receive an education leads to an increase in illiteracy in the general population and perpetuates a cycle of poverty within the working classes.
